Student Patient Counseling Competition

On Tuesday, Jan. 26, the Michigan Pharmacists Association conducted the National Patient Counseling Competition at University of Michigan College of Pharmacy.

These U of M pharmacy students participated in this event.




On Thursday, Jan. 28, the Michigan Pharmacists Association conducted the National Patient Counseling Competition at Ferris State University College of Pharmacy.

These FSU pharmacy students participated in this event.




Winners of this competition from each College of Pharmacy will be announced in February, with the winners advancing to the APA Annual meeting in April in San Antonio.

MSHP Clinical Skills Competition Winner

Clinical Skills Competitions were held at each of the Michigan Colleges of Pharmacy and the winning teams were presented with an award. The winner of the Michigan Clinical Skills Competition at the MSHP Annual Meeting on Nov. 14, 2008, was the team of Seema Ganatra and Karalea Rothenberg from the University of Michigan. These winners, along with the team of Michele Galloway and Lindsay Sehray from Ferris State University, also advanced to the national competition at the ASHP Mid-Year Clinical Meeting in Florida, Dec. 7-11.

WSU Students Present 4th Annual Wine and Dine Your Valentine

The American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Student Pharmacists Wayne State Chapter is presenting its 4th Annual Wine and Dine Your Valentine fundraising event. The event will take place on Feb. 4, 2009, at 7 p.m. and includes six different wine tastings, a choice of dinner at D'Amatos restaurant in Royal Oak and door prizes. Tickets are $65 per person. MSHP Student Luncheon

Join your classmates and future colleagues on Saturday, Feb. 28, from noon until 1:20 p.m. at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center for a luncheon sponsored by Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists. This is a ticketed event, and requires preregistration, so mark this event on your convention registration. On-site registration for the luncheon will be not be accepted.

Adopt-a-Student Program

The Michigan Pharmacy Foundation (MPF) is pleased to host the Adopt-a-Student program through a special fundraising event again this year. Student MPA members and other students can now sign-up to be adopted when registering for the 2009 MPA Annual Convention & Exposition. Simply check the Adopt-a-Student box on your registration form before submitting. Student MPA members can register for free, if registered prior to Feb. 5, 2009.

The purpose of the Adopt-a-Student program is to enable student pharmacists to attend the MPA Annual Banquet on Saturday, Feb 28, while networking with pharmacy professionals.

Fishbones in Greektown on Feb. 27

Fishbones in Greektown will be the place to be on Friday night, Feb. 27.

Immediately following the MPA Student Pharmacist Social, jump on the People Mover and head for Greektown. Join friends, colleagues and new friends for dancing and partying into the night.

Fishbones in Greektown is a "hot spot" for locals and vistors alike. This location boasts two sprawling bars, multi-level seating and live music. On Friday nights Fishbones kicks it up a notch, bringing out some of Metro Detroit's best musicians to perform at the foot of the atrium waterfall. Performing on Feb. 27 will be the Dan Rafferty Band, a young, dynamic, eight-piece group.
