Student Pharmacists Must Register for the Adopt-a-Student Program by Feb. 3

Student pharmacists wishing to participate in the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation (MPF) Adopt-a-Student Program in conjunction with the MPA Annual Convention & Exposition must register by Feb. 3. The program is offered to Student Michigan Pharmacists Association (SMPA) members only, and provides an opportunity for students to attend the Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony and network with a pharmacy professional.

Students who have already registered are in the process of being matched with “parents” and will be informed of who they were matched with so they can make arrangements to meet up with them at the Convention.

If you have any questions regarding the Adopt-a-Student Program, please contact Allison Drake at (517) 377-0241 or Allison@MichiganPharmacists.org.

SMPA members are also reminded that their Convention registration is complimentary through Feb. 3. Members will be charged a fee of $10 for onsite registration.

Participate in the MPF Adopt-a-Student Program

The Michigan Pharmacy Foundation (MPF) Adopt-a-Student program will be held at the MPA Annual Convention & Exposition Feb. 25-27, 2011, at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. The Adopt-a-Student program provides SMPA members the opportunity to network with Michigan's pharmacy leaders during the Annual Convention and at the annual banquet Saturday evening from 7-9:30 p.m.

MPA was provided feedback from student pharmacists regarding the program. Major changes in the process have been put in place to make the process much easier. All student pharmacists wishing to be adopted must follow the process outlined below.

Student Instructions for Adopt-a-Student Program
Please follow these steps to sign up for adoption through the MPF Adopt-a-Student program.

You must register for the Convention. Register online; complete a printable registration form; or call the MPA office at (517) 484-1466. Registration for Student MPA members is complimentary. After Feb. 3, registration is $10.

You must provide the following information:
  • First and last name
  • E-mail address
  • College and year
  • Practice area preference
  • What day you plan to arrive at the Convention (Friday or Saturday)

Student pharmacists that sign up to be adopted prior to Feb. 3 will be provided with the name and contact information of their "parent" so that they can make arrangements to meet with them at the Convention. Your parent will provide you with a reserved-seat banquet ticket either in person, or they may leave it at the Ambassador Relations Desk for you to pick up.

If you have any questions, please contact the MPA office at (517) 484-1466.

Attend Special Student Events at the Annual Convention

In addition to networking, exploring the Exhibit Hall, being adopted for the Annual Banquet and attending for free, specific student programming is a great reason to make sure to be at the MPA Annual Convention & Exposition Feb. 25-27 at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

Several student events will be held, including the following:

MPA Student Pharmacist Social
Friday, Feb. 25, 7-10:30 p.m.
Students are invited to attend this informal reception on Friday. Enjoy pizza and board games, while networking with fellow students from Michigan's colleges of pharmacy. All registered student pharmacists are invited to attend. Student MPA (SMPA) members can attend complimentary. A fee applies to nonmember student pharmacists.

MSHP Student Pharmacist Luncheon
Saturday, Feb. 26, noon-1:20 p.m.
Join your classmates and future colleagues on Saturday. This luncheon is sponsored by the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP). A ticket is required, and pre-registration is mandatory. Onsite registrations for this luncheon will not be accepted.
